Apple French Toast 10/97

1/4 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoon butter
2 teaspoon light corn syrup
1 each tart apple; peeled & sliced
1 each egg
1/3 cup milk
1/3 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 slices day old french bread 3/4 inch
1 3/4 thick ----SYRUP***********************---
3 oz apple jelly
1/3 cup applesauce
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

In a small saucepan, cook brown sugar, butter, and syrup until thick, about five to seven minutes. Pour into a flat casserole big enough to hold the bread slices in a single layer. Arrange apple slices on top. In a mixing bowl, beat egg, milk, and vanilla. Dip bread slices into the egg mixture for one minute; place over the apples. Cover and refrigerate over night. Remove from refrigerater 30 minutes before baking. Bake uncovered at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes. Combine syrup ingredients in a saucepan, cook and stir until hot. Serve over the french toast. Serve this with some chunked colby cheese and sausage.

Yield: 4 servings
