Patty Melt 4/99

1 lb ground beef
1/2 onion; sliced
1 slice bread; make crumbs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
8 slices rye bread
4 slices mozzarella cheese
4 slices white american cheese
1 butter
1 miracle whip (optional)
Saute onions in some butter. Mix ground beef, salt, garlic salt, pepper & bread crumbs together. Put between two pieces of waxed paper and roll out to fit 4 pieces of bread. These will be a little thinner than regular hamburgers. Fry these over medium heat until golden brown and then flip over. Remove from heat. Butter one side of each piece of bread. Put hamburger patty and a slice of Mozzarella on one side and a slice of American on the other and Miracle Whip (if desired) on unbuttered side. Top with sauteed onions. Fry sandwiches until brown and cheese is melted.
Yield: 4 servings
