Braised Onions 6/93 ****

4 medium size onions
1 tablespoon cooking oil
3/4 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup boiling water
Cut onions in half. To the boiling water in a nonstick 12" skillet, add remaining ingredients, except onions. Stir. Add onions; reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 12 minutes. Remove cover and cook, turning occasionally, until all liquid evaporates and onions are tender and golden brown.
Yield: 4 servings
