Parmesan Cheese Twists 7/98

1/2 pkg frozen puff pastry sheets
1 (1 sheet)
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon parsley
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1 garlic powder
1 cayenne pepper
Thaw out pastry sheet for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 400. Mix egg and water and set aside. Mix cheese, parsley and oregano and set aside. Unfold pastry and put between 2 pieces of waxed paper. Roll into a 14 by 10 inch rectangle. Cut in half lengthwise. Brush both halves with the egg mixture. Top 1 rectangle with the cheese mixture. Place remaining rectangle over cheese topped rectangle, egg side down. Roll gently with rolling pin to seal. Cut crosswise into 28 (1/2 inch) strips. Twist strips and place 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet. Brush with egg mixture and sprinkle with garlic powder and cayenne pepper to taste. Bake 10 minutes or until golden. Serve warm or at room temperature. To make ahead, twist strips, place on baking sheet, and brush with egg mixture. Sprinkle with the garlic powder and cayenne. Freeze and store in a plastic bag. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden.
