Beef Rouladen #673 11/03

1 1/2 lbs beef top round steak
4 bacon strips; halved
8 small garlic dill pickles
4 tablespoon vegetable oil; divided
6 tablespoon flour
3 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon savory
1 large garlic clove; minced
fresh ground pepper
Cut steak into 8 4" X 3" pieces; flatten to 1/4" thickness. Place a bacon piece and pickle along short side of each; roll up and secure with toothpicks. In a large skillet, heat 2 tbs oil over medium-high heat. Brown roll-ups on all sides. Remove. In the sames skillet, heat the remaining oil. Stir in the flour until smooth. Cook and stir over medium heat until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Gradually blend in the broth, savory , and garlic. Return roll-ups to pan. Cover and cook over low heat for 1 1/2 hours . Season with pepper. Serve with mashed potatoes.
