Belgian Beef Stew 6/9/00 #517

1 lb beef stew meat
2/3 cup chopped onion
1 1/3 tablespoon bacon fat
salt, pepper
4 tablespoon flour
2/3 tablespoon brown sugar
1 1/3 cup beer
2/3 cup beef consomme
1/4 teaspoon anise seeds; heaping
6 oz noodles; cooked
sour cream

Saute beef and onions in bacon fat. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, flour and brown sugar. Add beer, consomme and anise seeds. stir it up and bring to a boil. Transfer to a casserole, cover and bake at 375 for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. If this is too thin, make a mixture of flour and water and stir in until you get the desired consistancy. Serve this over noodles and add a dollop of sour cream.

Yield: 4 servings
